The southern part of the Pamirs is located in Tajikistan. This area is called Gorno-Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Region short GBAO. It is bordered from the south by the Panj river (anciently known as the Oxus). Across the river is Afghanistan’s Vachan Corridor. This area is an extremely interesting region: ancient Buddhist monuments, Islamic pilgrimage sites, and magnificent five- and sixthousander mountains. In 2022, Michal Kleslo’s team went on an exploratory tour in one of the easily accessible valleys, where they climbed two five-thousand-meter peaks. https://publications.americanalpineclub.org/ Our goal is to repeat their successful tour.
